DELF-DALF

The DELF-DALF comprises six diplomas calibrated to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR): A1, A2, B1, B2 for the DELF and C1, C2 for the DALF.

These exams are designed to assess a candidate's communication skills in a real-life situation, using authentic documents. There is no traditional test for assessing grammatical and linguistic knowledge.

The tests include a comprehensive assessment of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Each level can be taken independently and as many times as you like, until you pass. There are three exam sessions each year.

DELF

A Sought-After and Recommended Linguistic Passport

The DELF (Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française) is much more than just an exam: it is an official and permanent certification in French as a second language, recognized worldwide. Designed to certify the French language skills of non-French-speaking candidates, this diploma is now an essential reference for anyone wishing to validate their level of French, whether for academic, professional, or personal purposes.

Worldwide recognition

Founded in 1985, the DELF has since experienced remarkable growth. Today, 900 test centers in 154 countries welcome approximately 320,000 candidates each year. In total, more than 2.5 million people have taken the DELF worldwide, a figure that attests to its global impact and continued relevance.

A structure based on the CEFR

The DELF is part of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), which guarantees a consistent, reliable, and recognized assessment in all contexts. It consists of four independent levels:

  • A1: introductory or discovery level

  • A2: intermediate or survival level

  • B1: threshold level

  • B2: advanced or independent level

For candidates wishing to go further, there is also the DALF (Advanced Diploma in French Language), which assesses levels C1 (independent) and C2 (proficiency).

A growing presence in Canada

The Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française (DELF) is experiencing significant expansion in Canada, particularly in Ontario, where it is increasingly integrated into school curricula and recognized by various educational institutions. This trend is also reflected in the Hamilton region, where local school boards have adopted the DELF to assess and certify students' French language skills.
