Food and Nutrition, Grade 9 or 10, Open Course (HFN1O/HFN2O) This course allows students to analyze individual nutritional needs and helps them reflect on the familial, social, and cultural influences that guide food choices. A study of the nutritional recommendations in Canada's Food Guide and the principles of good nutrition leads students to recognize the importance of making informed food choices to maintain good health throughout their lives. Students will be able to design balanced menus and prepare nutritious meals and snacks. By examining the environmental impact of the food supply, students are encouraged to explore ways to reduce their ecological footprint. This course, like all those in the Humanities and Social Sciences curriculum, also targets the development of research and communication skills. Prerequisite: None
