Students examine, in their historical context, the significant events and major issues that have shaped the American nation, its institutions, its identity, and its culture, and that have enabled it to assume a leading role on a global scale. By using the concepts of critical thinking in history and the process of inquiry, which includes the analysis and interpretation of evidence, students acquire the skills necessary to analyze the forces that have shaped the history of the United States.
