History Origins and Citizenship: History of an Ethnocultural Community in Canada, Grade 11, Open Course (CHE3O) This course explores the history of an ethnocultural community of varying ages in Canada and the social, political, and economic realities of immigration to Canada. Students will study the historical changes and events that occurred in the community's country or region of origin, the factors that led some members of this community to emigrate, and the experiences of these newcomers in settling in Canada and integrating into Canadian society. Using critical thinking concepts in history and the process of inquiry, which includes analyzing and interpreting evidence, students will acquire the skills necessary to analyze the history of this ethnocultural community. Note: This course is designed to focus on the history of an ethnocultural community (to be determined by the school) established today in Canada. The French-language school may focus on the history of an ethnocultural community resulting from recent Francophone immigration. However, with the school's agreement, students may focus on different ethnocultural communities. Prerequisite: Canadian History Since the First World War, Grade 10, theoretical or applied course, or a locally developed Canadian history course leading to a compulsory Grade 10 credit.
