4th – Social Studies

The Grade 4 social studies curriculum in Ontario focuses on the study of communities and civilizations. Students learn to explore ancient and modern societies, investigating their political, economic, and social structures, as well as their cultures and innovations. They explore themes such as governance, citizenship rights and responsibilities, and cultural diversity. The curriculum also includes the study of the first peoples of North America and their history, emphasizing an understanding of historical perspectives and the recognition of diverse cultures. Students are encouraged to reflect on common human values and understand the impacts of social and political choices over time.
