6th – Social Studies

The Grade 6 social studies curriculum in Ontario focuses on the study of ancient and modern societies, particularly those that have influenced Canadian and world history. Students study ancient civilizations such as Egypt, Greece, and Rome, analyzing their political, economic, and social organization, as well as their culture, art, and inventions. They also explore the impact of these civilizations on the modern world and the evolution of ideas and systems. The curriculum also includes elements of geography, such as map reading, the study of climatic regions and natural resources, and the study of migration and cultural exchange over time. Students are encouraged to reflect on universal human values and understand the consequences of social and political choices in a historical context.
